...so i'm working like a slave's worst nightmare , feverishly trying to finish a project that was , of course , dumped on me by the bosses from work at the last minute and as always , "due yesterday" --standard operating procedure at the saltmines in which i labor to earn my daily bowl of porridge... while i'm working , the news is on the radio and they are discussing this congressman william jefferson-- "dumbocrat" from louisiana the fbi allegedly caught on videotape with his hand in the cookie jar taking a bribe ..."another dirty congressman" is the immediate reaction --big deal --most of them are already bought and sold --lock him up and then go get the rest --but then as the story continued , they reported that the fbi raided his house and found $90,000 of the $100 grand thay had used as the bribe money hidden in his freezer --the radio makes the predictable "cold cash" comment and then the report mentions that the fbi raided also his congressional offices --unprecedented in Us history and it starts to become clear to me that there might be more to this case than a simple bribery sting .

picture this senario -- under the patriot act the defenders of the "law" can unannounced and without your knowledge enter your home or place of business , search the premises and never have to inform you that they were even there.

so let's just say that you happen to be a member of congress and you just voted against a bill , or an appropriations that cost certain business people connected to vested , powerful interests , some lucrative government contracts, or let's say you even voted against a war the executive branch might be cheerleading for and your obstinance somehow disturbs the scheduled feedings of the hogs at the trough ...under the patriot act , what is to stop this same executive branch from sending its minions to pay an unnanounced visit to your home or offices in order to put something incriminating there --a large wad of marked cash , a dead hooker , a kilo of coke or heroin , or a ton of kiddy porn photos that they can they quickly return and arrest you for ?

if congress is corrupt--and it most certainly is -- does corruption limit itself to only one branch of government ?

under the patriot act it would be too easy and too tempting to plant evidence to make a case --or to punish political opposition --as appears to have been done by this present administration to nsa intel analyst ken ford who recently got slapped behind bars for six years when 2 boxes of classified documents were supposedly removed by him undetected from a super secret , super secure , super surveilled government spy facility and somehow made their way into his home and onto his kitchen table of all places...

ford had , as an nsa intel analyst , signed his name to a report that said there was no evidence he could find that iraq possessed wmd. this report contradicted the bush administration's spin and bullshite leading the american public by the nose to war . this same report with ford's name on it crossed the desk of one dick cheney --a man with power and an obvious hard-on for war with iraq--anyone alive from the neck up can put two and two together.

congresswoman cynthia mckinney --a long outspoken critic of the "dick and dub" whitehouse spin-show gets stopped and manhandled on her way to a session of congress by capitol hill police in an obvious attempt to send a message that this administration is clearly not above using law enforcement or investigative agencies to harrass , blackmail intimidate those opposed to its policy of war and crony feeding frenzy at the public trough ...so you've got what appears to be a corrupt dumbocrat caught with his hands full with $100,000 in marked cash while jack abramoff stuffs millions into offshore accounts in return for peddled influence while israelis run callgirls ,callboys and callchildren out of washington dc hotels --to very influential washington dc people--and for the first time in history , fbi raids congressional offices --not looking for marked money --they've already claimed to have recovered that from his freezer --but instead , they seize boxes of documents and hard drives from computers in congressman jefferson's offices --bush slaps a freeze order on releasing details about the nature of the documents and info seized --- and i can't help but wonder --what's REALLY going on here ?

could it have something to do with the "congressman from chevron" --jefferson's documents citing not only his connections to nigerian bribe money but bush-cheney oil connections to nigerian bribe money and underhanded dealings with a bunch of greedy, foolish all-too-eager-to-loot-their-own-country nigerians --with the fbi documents seizures being a case of the bush administration covering its own azz ?

out of curiosity , i listened this morning to a report from dave emory concerning the death of iris chang and my interest in this case was revived .

it was put together in may 2005 over a year and a half after chang's death . according to emory , chang was receiving torrents of hatemail and death threats and said in her 'suicide' note that "external pressures" on her to end it all , were greater than the "internal pressures" on her .

she mentions unseen , powerful interests tapping her phone ,following her, pressuring her , threatening her to stop her investigations , to stop writing.

she included the cia as one of those groups possibly seeking retribution against her for her investigations into japanese war crimes and american complicity with japan after the war in covering the war crimes up --keeping the defeated japanese fascists in power as the coldwar began.

she believed that something had happened to her during a trip to louisville that she would never understand ..." as long as i am alive they will never stop hounding me" emory revealed she said in the long 'suicide' letter that she left .

the brief interview with a military colonel she conducted at her hotel as part of her unfinished work on the survivors of the world war two battan death march left her so terrified of that colonel and so terrified for her life that soon afterwards she checked into a norton psychiatric hospital in louisville with 'help' from the very same colonel the same afternoon of their interview... a friend mentioned that "she was afraid of him when he showed up ."

i remember reading about her apparent suicide by gunshot on 11-9-04 --quite tragically ironic, almost on veteran's day-- and immediately thinking to myself that women don't usually use guns to kill themselves .

at the time i was still grieving the losses of my own family members and what extra focus i had was absorbed in looking into the 2004 election fraud and the second bush theft of the presidency .

unfortunately , i only gave a cursory look into ms chang's 'suicide' . at the time , my paranoia gland told me something was wrong with the official story in the case , but left it temporarily , after seeing she had been recently hospitalized for depression when friends said that something that happened to her in kentucky while interviewing american survivors of the "battan death march" , had unnerved ms chang so badly that her husband and friends said she checked into a mental hospital .

soon after her treatment and release , she was found dead in her car on a california roadway from a gunshot wound --the papers said she left a suicide note which they quoted in part --with iris reportedly saying she had fallen apart and was no longer the woman she had once been and was ending her life because she could not bear for her family to see how badly she had unraveled --and the pitiful woman she had become compared to the celebrated investigative journalist she had just recently been , was too painful for her to live with.

i checked further, back then and saw that she had 2 small children --noted it might be considered unusual for a woman with small children to kill herself --her maternal instincts might encourage her to hold on to life--no matter how depressed-- just for the sake of her little kids --and then i noted that she had written a few books , one among them being "the rape of nanking " that caused quite a sensation .

the book dealt with japanese war crimes in china during the 30s. 350,000 chinese civilians brutally murdered by japanese soldiers mostly by bayonnets and swords . her investigations stepped on rightwing japanese corporate toes , especially in light of recent lawsuits by people used by the japanese army and used by corporations like mitsubishi, as slave labor , lawsuits also including korean and chinese women used as "comfort women" --raped by japanese soldiers in sexslave brothels during the war .

iris chang and others were investigating war crimes committed by japan . iris was doing follow up work for a related project involving "the death march from battan" , phillipines , where 70,000 american soldiers surrendered to the japanese army and were marched through the jungles in a deadly trek on which many perished . the survivors were used as slave labor and many were worked to death --some in japan itself.

back in 2004, considering the location she was at conducting some of her interviews --ohio and kentucky , i wrongly speculated that perhaps something racial might have come up during her interviews of these aging Us war veterans. with nothing else to go on , i speculated that perhaps so devastating an insult to ms chang's sense of herself as a celebrated chinese-AMERICAN author may have been issued that perhaps her self esteem could not handle it.

along with all the flak she was at the time receiving over her rape of nanking book from powerful japanese corporations , media and japanese rightwing i thought that perhaps the official story that all the stress pushed her over the edge might have been true .

in the next few days and weeks , not much else was being said about her and then with investigative journalist gary webb's "suicide" by gunshot a month after ms chang on 12 -09-04, followed by the "suicide" by gunshot of writer hunter thompson two months later on 2-20-05 i noted the coincidences but did not look as deeply into each case as i should have ...

when an ali , liston , bowe , or a lennox lewis signed for a fight , you never knew for certain which version of that fighter would show up--with patterson you knew that he would be there in the best of condition and trained to the finest edge that his body could achieve .

at the latter stages of his career , in stockholm, sweden floyd lost a close decision for the wba heavyweight title to long time ali associate jimmy ellis . again and again during the fight , floyd out-fought the taller , younger ellis , knocked him down and also broke jimmy's nose... many in attendance said floyd was robbed by the decision --of what technically would have been an unprecedented third heavyweight title --almost a decade before muhammad ali actually did accomplish the feat .
